Former 49ers Wide Receiver Drew Significant Interest Before Inking Deal with Vikings

Jauan Jennings, the former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. Although his wait on the market stretched longer than expected, the 29-year-old receiver was far from overlooked.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed Friday on the Pat McAfee Show that three other teams—aside from the Vikings—had pursued Jennings. According to Schefter, the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, and Kansas City Chiefs all expressed interest in the free-agent wideout. Notably, the Vikings were the only team Jennings visited with.

The interest comes as no surprise, given Jennings’ role as a reliable third-down target for the 49ers over his career. As injuries struck San Francisco’s receiving corps in recent seasons, he transitioned from a supporting role into a prominent starter at the top of the depth chart.

Free agency often sees a secondary wave of signings following the NFL draft, once the compensatory pick formula no longer applies and teams have a clearer picture of roster needs. Miami, Washington, and Kansas City each could have used a steady third or fourth receiver like Jennings, but ultimately it was the Vikings who secured his services.
