Akron striker Artyom Dzyuba is unlikely to feature in the remaining matches of the season due to a thigh injury, according to the club’s head coach Zaur Tedeev.
Dzyuba, Russia’s all-time top scorer, sustained the injury on May 3 during a home match against Krasnodar in the 28th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL), which ended in a 1-0 defeat. The 37-year-old forward was substituted off in the 57th minute.
“Judging by what’s happening with him now and the injury he sustained, I have little hope that he will play again this season. I just want to support him once more and say once again that he is a very strong player,” Tedeev told Match TV.
This season, Dzyuba has made 26 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.
Akron currently sits in 12th place in the RPL standings with 27 points.
